1st ED. 221pp. 13 b/w plates. good cond. The story of the loss of the Royal Charter which sank in 1859 off the coast of Anglesey in a Force 12 gale. It was a veritable treasure ship as it was returning from Australia loaded with more than £375,000 in gold and miners with their families from the gold fields with money bags bulging. Much of the gold was recovered in the weeks after the disaster. |
