Description |
1st ED. pb. 170pp. 19 b/w plates & 1 map. good cond, cvr little dirty, front cvr creased at hinge. The Cornish coast-line, with its storm-lashed reefs and islands - particularly the Scillies - has for centuries borne an evil reputation with seamen. To give warning of these dangers, this corner of England has been ringed by a protective screen of lighthouses. The author tells the story of building many of them especially the off-shore rock based ones. Alongside these lighthouses there exist many humble but no less useful beacons marking harbour entrances. The author has delved fully into the history of these little lights also. |
