The story of this full-rigged three-mastered American ship which foundered on the Auckland Islands off New Zealand in 1866. Legand says it was carrying bullion from the Australian gold fields with estimates reaching as high s £5 million sterling. Expeditions to raise the fabled treasure were made in 1868,1870, 1876, 1877, and 1916 with no success. |
