1st ED. 295pp. many b/w plates, illus & maps. book & dj vg cond. The story of Padre Diego Rivadeneira taken from his diary which the author discovered in the Archivo General de Indias, in Seville. It tells of his three attempts to return to Spain from Peru but on each attempt his galleon was sunk and on the third one he was taken prisoner by the English in sight of Spain. The first two galleons, the La Capitana and the Maravillas were both carrying huge fortunes in treasure. The author also tells the story of exploring both the treasure galleon wreck sites and of the huge treasure salvaged off the Capitana in 1996 and 1997. |
