1st ED. 252pp. 4 col & 24 b/w plates & 2 illus. fair + cond, cvr rubbed especially on spine edges, spine lettering faded, previous owner’s inscription front fep, pages clean. Originator of the undersea motion picture. The author’s account of his adventures with devil fish, octopuses, sharks, sucker fish, rays and other specimens makes fascinating reading. His success as a photographer using his father’s deep-sea salvaging device of a flexible metal tube fitted with a glass porthole led him to attempt undersea films and his description of how Jules Verne’s famous story “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea” was produced is both thrilling and amusing. |
